More information:
I work with individual adults and with couples who are struggling with life transitions and stress-related problems, depression and anxiety, grief and bereavement, traumatic events of childhood and adulthood, and sexual identity issues. My orientation is in humanistic and existential psychotherapy, particularly Gestalt therapy, and is heavily influenced by Buddhist psychology. I work experientially, helping you become more connected with your authentic self rather than with defensive structures. My clients become more gentle with themselves and others, judge themselves and others less harshly, and explore their thoughts, feelings, and interpersonal behavior with courage. I often offer groups in Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy and offer instruction in mindfulness meditation to help deepen the foundation of personal change, prevent symptom relapse, and manage stress. For many years I was the Clinical Director of the Graduate Psychology Program at Antioch University, Santa Barbara, where I trained students in psychotherapy knowledge, skills and practice. Currently I teach a course in Buddhist Psychology at Fielding Graduate University. For more information see my website at www.mindmadeup.net.
