Brief Bio
Carrie Towbes, Ph.D. is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist specializing in the assessment and treatment of children and their families. A Santa Barbara native, Carrie relocated back to the area in 2008 after nearly 30 years in the mid-Atlantic. Carrie’s psychological services practice focuses on the assessment and treatment of children and families with challenges such as attention deficits, learning disabilities, developmental disorders, and anxiety disorders. She also presents workshops and trainings to parents and teachers. As a parent of two young adults, Carrie recognizes the critical role that parents play in nurturing their children’s development; as a result, her practice emphasizes parent support and involvement. Carrie obtained her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Delaware in 1992. She has worked in wide range of settings including community clinics, hospitals, and schools. Prior to obtaining her Ph.D., she received a B.S. in Elementary Education, a M.Ed. in Special Education, and obtained her Advanced Professional Teaching Certification. She taught elementary school children with learning disabilities and emotional difficulties in a Maryland public school system outside of Baltimore. Currently Carrie is a board member at Storyteller Children's Center, Planned Parenthood of the California Central Coast, and Crane Country Day School. She formerly was a Clinical Supervisor at CALM and a member of the First Five Advisory Board.
