Brief Bio
Dr. Gurney has been working with adolescents, young adults, couples, and families for more than two decades. She uses an integrative, relational and strength-based approach to therapy, combining contemporary psychodynamic theory, systems theory, and cognitive behavioral techniques. When working with couples, she draws upon and has been trained in EFCT (Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy).

Currently, she maintains a private practice in Santa Barbara and is a Professor of Psychology at Westmont College. Educationally, she completed her post-doctoral fellowship in Couples and Family Therapy at Harvard Medical School/Cambridge Health Alliance, her Ph.D. at Northeastern University, and her M.S. in Psychological Services at University of Pennsylvania.
