  • Clinicians who are not members of SBCPA are welcome to join this training. The cost of the training includes the fee for applying for CE credits for licensed professionals (psychologists and licensed clinicians who are eligible to apply for credits through the Board of Behavioral Science, inclusive of LCSW, LMFT, LPCC & LEC clinicians).
  • This training is a offered at the reduced rate of $25 as a membership benefit for SBCPA members.
  • This training is offered at a rate of $25 for any unlicensed students or members who are NOT seeking CE credits.

    SBCPA Presents: Suicide Assessment and Intervention 

    Presenter: Kjell Rudestam, Ph.D., A.B.P.P.

    Dr. Rudestam is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association (Division 12), a Diplomate of the American Board of Examiners in Professional Psychology (Clinical), a Diplomate of the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress, and holds an Honorary Doctorate of Science from The Professional School of Psychology. He is currently an emeritus professor and received Fielding Graduate University’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2019.  He is the author or editor of 13 books and many APA journal articles, including 14 on the topic of suicide.

    Topic

    This seminar addresses one of our most vexing and challenging social issues: the loss of life through suicide. It will cover basic approaches to assessing suicide risk, interviewing and treating suicidal patients. The seminar will focus on standards of care and malpractice issues relevant to the practicing psychologist, as well as how to address the needs of survivors of suicide, including therapists.

    Learning Objectives:

    1. List at least 2 contemporary theories and models of suicide risk and behavior.
    2. Identify at least 3 correlates of suicide risk.
    3. State the difference between crisis intervention and longer-term interventions addressing suicide risk and behavior.
    4. Describe at least 3 techniques that can be used to appropriately and sensitively support the needs of family members and friends who are survivors of suicide.

      Continuing Education:

      CPA is co-sponsoring with Santa Barbara County Psychological Association (SBCPA). The California Psychological Association is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. CPA maintains responsibility for this program and its contents.

        Important Notice:

        Those who attend the workshop and complete the CPA evaluation form will receive three (3.0) continuing education credits. Please note that APA CE rules require that we give credit only to those who attend the entire workshop. Those arriving more than 15 minutes after the start time or leaving before the workshop is completed will not receive CE credits.

        Please note: This event is offered at a rate of $25 for SBCPA and VCPA members. Non-members are welcome to join this event at a rate of $50. Students, or participants who are not applying for CE credit are welcome to join this event at a rate of $25.
