Tic disorders are common in children and adolescents. DSM-5-TR lists 5 disorders with the best known but least common being Tourette’s Disorder. Tics are sudden, rapid, recurrent, nonrhythmic movements or vocalizations. Tic disorders are commonly comorbid with OCD, ADHD, and Autism Spectrum Disorders. Tic disorders may lead to significant distress and pain. Tic disorders may interfere with function in social, academic, or vocational settings. Traditional treatments involved medications. More recently effective behavioral treatments have been developed. This workshop will present information on the epidemiology, diagnosis, and treatment of tic disorders. Please note that psychologists must coordinate with medical professionals when medication treatment is considered.

    Learning Objectives:

    1. List three common tic disorders.

    2. Identify three features that differentiate between tics and pseudo tics

    3. Identify two common treatment approaches for treating tic disorders.
