SBCPA Presents: Healing Attachment Trauma: The Power of Creating a Coherent Narrative
Presenter: Lisa Firestone, Ph.D
Lisa Firestone, PhD is the Director of Research and Education at the Glendon Associationwww.glendon.org and Senior Editor for www.psychalive.org Dr. Firestone is the author of numerous peer reviewed articles, chapters and books including: Conquer Your Critical Inner Voice, as well as Creating a Life of Meaning andCompassionand The Self under Siege and Sex and Love in Intimate Relationships. She has been involved in clinical training and research in the areas of suicide and violence which resulted in the development of the assessments Firestone Assessment of Self-destructive Thoughts and the Firestone Assessment of Violent Thoughts. Lisa is a clinical psychologist in private practice and consultant in the management of high-risk clients.

Timeline:
12:00- 12:05: Title and Learning Objectives 12:05-1:20: Presentation will be broken down into the following sections:
· Provide an Introduction and Overview of Attachment Theory
· Discuss the Intersection between Interpersonal Neurobiology, Separation Theory, and Attachment
· Provide exercises based on the adult attachment interview for identifying attachment patterns
· Provide exercises for moving towards a coherent narrative
1:20-1:30: Question and Answer
Topic:
The presentation will focus on methods for helping clients create coherent narratives of their early life attachment experiences. This allows them to develop a sense of inner security. Dr. Firestone will draw upon research and outline the process of writing a coherent narrative. Findings in neurobiology show that when a person writes a coherent narrative, they rewire their brain to feel more secure within themselves and their relationships. Creating a coherent narrative is the process of developing earned secure attachment.

CPA is co-sponsoring with Santa Barbara County Psychological Association (SBCPA). The California Psychological Association is approved by the American Psychological Association to sponsor continuing education for psychologists. CPA maintains responsibility for this program and its contents.

Those who attend the workshop and complete the CPA evaluation form will receive (1.5) continuing education credits. Please note that APA CE rules require that we give credit only to those who attend the entire workshop. Those arriving more than 15 minutes after the start time or leaving before the workshop is completed will not receive CE credits.
